Office Applications

AjaxWrite: No signup required, just launch it and you have a Lightweight Word Processor at your fingertips. It can read and write Microsoft Word and other standard document formats and displays multiple documents at once in tabs. It does require Mozilla Firefox browser version 1.5 or higher.

ThinkFree Write : This is a Microsoft® Office compatible application suite comprised of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation graphics software-all usable online and off. It offers Internet-based file sharing and storage as well as end-to-end security. Built for cross-platform functionality, ThinkFree is compatible with Windows, Macintosh, Unix and Linux systems.

Google Docs: An Online Word Processor which allows users to create and edit documents collaboratively online, publicly or privately share documents, import existing Word documents and more.

Writeboard: Writeboard is another Online Word Processor. Writeboards are shareable, web-based text documents that let you save every edit, roll back to any version, and easily compare changes. Can either be used independently or can be used to collaborate with others.


Learning & Research

Diigo: A Social Annotation and bookmarking service where users can bookmark sites, highlight and add notes to them.

Del.icio.us: Organize your bookmarks all in one place and see what others are bookmarking. You can share your bookmarks and bookmark for others.

EasyBib: An automatic bibliography composer that lets users enter sources and fill out a simple form to be given in MLA style bibliographies.

Ottobib: Simply enter an ISBN number for each book and retrieve the bibliographies in MLA, APA, AMA, or Chicago/Turabian format.

MindPicnic: A service similar to Nuvvo where users can create courses and find and study interesting courses.

Nuvvo
: This service allows users to search for classes to enroll in online on just about any topic. It offers the opportunity to learn what you want from either free or paid courses.


Organizers

Backpack: Backpack is an all around great organizer including note taking, file storage, to do lists, a calendar, and more. An example use could be that students can create pages in their organizer for each class and manage notes on class discussions as well as upload related files and class documents.

mynoteIT: An online note taking tool for students including a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) note editor, assignment reminders, grade management, to do lists, and more. Students can also share notes with friends and receive feedback through commenting on notes.

Stu.dicio.us: Built into the Stu.dicio.us organizer comes a very simple grade manager allowing students to assign grade categories (homework, quiz, tests, etc.) and grades to each of their classes.


Presentation Applications

Empressr: Empressr is a web-based application that lets you create, share and store presentations online. It offers rich media features, like streaming video and animation, to create dynamic presentations. It has a wizard that assists you in selecting the text, fonts, images and multimedia assets you wish to use allowing for smooth presentation creation. Every presentation you create is stored online on a secure server. You and anyone you grant access to, can view your presentations. Send anyone an email with a link to your presentation which they can then view with their browser. You can save up to five presentations for free.

SlideShow: Upload your slides, share with a link, embed in a blog, tag, and comment slides. This application is only available by invitation only. Presentations are displayed through flash players and users can place their flash presentations on their websites. This is a great application for users who want to store presentations online and provide feedback.

Zoho Show: This is a web-based presentation tool which allows users to create, edit, publish, and show presentations. Users can create presentations which are full of text, images, shapes, lists, and preformatted content templates. If you have an existing Powerpoint and OpenOffice presentation these can be imported and viewed online along with the option to export as HTML.


Design Diagrams

Gliffy: Create and share diagrams from flowcharts, floor plans, technical drawings and more. This program runs completely in a web-browser and only requires macromedia flash player. There is no download and creating a diagram is as easy as drag and drop.

Mayomi: Mayomi is short for 'Map Your Mind'. This is a free flash-based mind mapping tool which helps when brainstorming for projects, papers, topics, etc. This is a great tool for students for many assignments.


Spreadsheets

EditGrid: EditGrid also offers real-time online collaboration capabilities. There are more than 500 functions, full access control and supports multiple browsers.

Google Spreadsheets: Import existing spreadsheets or create new one. Share and collaborate with others all in your web browser. Chat with others with real-time editing.

iRows: This spreadsheet offers chart functionality, dynamic web data, and more. No need to install, access your spreadsheets anywhere online through a browser.

Numbler: Offers real-time editing and chatting with multiple users with a nice clean interface but is not as feature packed as the above.


Calendars

30 Boxes: This tool is wonderful for students or anyone who wants to share their calendar with others. It's very easy and simple to use and features RSS subscription to automatically populate the calendar with feed items on the day they were published – great for tracking teacher blogs and academic feeds. Users can access their calendars on the go with 30 Boxes Mobile with their cell phones.

CalendarHub: CalendarHub offers a great service for personal and group use offering a simple drag and drop interface, calendar subscribing, reminder notification, and more.

Google Calendar: Users can create multiple calendars with many different view options, share calendars with the web or a select few, subscribe to other shared calendars and more.

Spongecell: Sync this calendar with your iPod or forward emails with event info to a specific email and new events will be added to your calendar.


Miscellaneous

eFax: eFax lets users receive faxes through email for free simply by providing them with a temporary phone number that senders can use to send their documents. eFax is free for receiving faxes but does cost to send faxes.

Emurse: Create resumes using expert advise and manage multiple resumes. Send your resume out via email, fax, or ground and track where you have sent each resume, online or off. Keeps you on top with reminders, updates and thank you notes. Offers a webpage to post your resume which can be synced with leading job hunting sites.

Scanr: Scanr is great for those without access to a scanner. Scan, copy and fax whiteboards, documents, and business cards with just a camera phone or digital camera. Great for research at the library and creating a backup of printed class handouts on the computer.
